if the British people wished there to be no royal family what would happen?

if the British people wished there to be no royal family what would happen?

i mean could parliament remove them and if so how? the royal family technically (Queen Elizabeth 11) is the leader of the Britain. The prime minster is primary serving the queen? how would this work out and could the royal family object.

(Not that i want them to be removed nor any other royal family that does not abuse their rights)

The British people want and admire Her Majesty
Queen Elizabeth II, despite people who are
vocal about getting rid of her.

She contributes more to the Exchequer than the
Chancellor gives back the her; the Duchy of
Lancaster for example. The Queen opens the
House of Commons each year, has summer parties
in the garden of Buckingham Palace, receives new
Ambassadors from other countries and visits
people in those countries....

We are extremely lucky to have her !

I think the Queen would step down if there was a referendum against her and the majority wanted to get rid of her. To do that you would have to get party with a policy to get rid of the Monarchy into government. Then have the referendum. Then an act of parliament. Constitutionally the Queen could stop parliament even debating whether they could get rid of her but it would probably end up with her being force to abdicate anyway.

The Queen has said that if it was the will of the people, then she would "Go quietly" she is not a self serving politician, she isn't in it for the money and certainly not for the power. I am sure that she would much rather be at home in the evenings with her feet up, a glass of Malvern water in one hand and a good book in the other, instead of having to entertain, smile and be polite to the likes of a George Dubya Bush, a Hosni Mubarak or any of the other vile dictators served up by the Prime Minister in power with £ signs in their eyes. I am not saying that Bush was a dictator, just......... vile.

I understand that if the people were so inclined, the Prime Minister of the day would simply need to write a letter giving Her Majesty 2 weeks notice. Quite simple Mr Glass. Naturally, there will be negotiations about a redundancy payment.

Well that's exactly what wishes are .... dreams. So if they imagine the royals aren't there, and believe they're not there, well it's true for the individual who believes it. Not a bad idea at times.

When the crown was restored in 1660 it was down so with Parliament reserving the right to abolish the monarchy at any time. Parliament has complete sovereignty over the UK. What they says go. Laws from the EU, Parliament follows them because it chooses to, not because it has to.
The Prime Minister technically runs Government on the Queen's behalf, however in reality he runs it. If the Queen has personal objections to a government policy she generally keeps it to herself.
Parliament would simply draw up legislation, vote on it, and voila, Royal Family abolished.

Parliament has the constitutional right to abolish the monarchy. Moreover, if a referendum were held to abolish the monarchy, the British Royal family would become private citizens.

Most probably some of the minor Royals would continue to live in the United Kingdom unless there was a violent revolution that overthrew the monarchy. Cafe. or jet set, society is full of deposed monarchs, and descendants of the French kings still live in France and Spain. Some of them are investment bankers, economists, or fashion designers.

I suppose someone could introduce a bill into parliament, and if the majority of MPs supported it, it could pass. The difficulty would be that the Queen has to give assent to all acts of parliament before they become law. Would she give assent to an act abolishing her role? I don't know.
